Architecture

That empty space around your house can be so much more than grass that dies in summer. The right plants, a sitting area you’ll actually use, lighting that makes evenings beautiful — your outdoor space should be relaxing, not extra work.

Plan Your Outdoor Space

An outdoor space designed to actually be used

Most landscape work in Lucknow follows the same pattern — a patch of lawn in front, a few random shrubs along the boundary, and maybe some pots near the entrance. It looks fine when the house is new. Six months later the grass is patchy, the shrubs are overgrown on one side and dead on the other, and the space gets ignored because maintaining it has become more trouble than it’s worth.

Landscape architecture is not gardening advice. It is the design of the outdoor spaces around a building — how the ground levels work, where the hardscape sits, which areas are planted and with what, where you sit in the evening, how the space is lit after dark, and how water drains when it rains hard. All of this is planned as carefully as the rooms inside the house, because the outdoor space is part of the house.

Architect Lucknow designs landscapes specifically for how Lucknow’s climate behaves — the brutal May heat, the monsoon that fills every low point, the three months of genuinely pleasant weather when you actually want to be outside. A good outdoor space is one that rewards you during those three months and doesn’t punish you during the other nine.

Every part of your outdoor space, planned together

A landscape that works is made up of several elements that all have to be planned in relation to each other. Designed separately, they rarely add up to something that feels complete or functions well.

Plant Selection for Lucknow
We only specify plants that actually grow here. That means species that handle 45-degree summer heat without constant watering, survive the monsoon without rotting at the root, and come back reliably after winter. No exotic specimens that need special care, no lawn varieties that look good for one season. Your garden should still look presentable with normal effort two years from now.
Sitting and Social Areas
A terrace or garden that has no shade, no comfortable seating arrangement, and no reason to be in is a missed opportunity. We design outdoor sitting areas with the evening in mind — the right orientation so you’re not facing the setting sun, enough shade so the surface cools down by 6pm, and a layout so more than two people can sit together comfortably.
Outdoor Lighting
Good outdoor lighting is what makes the difference between a garden that shuts down at sunset and one that becomes its best version after dark. We plan uplighting for trees, path lighting that guides without glaring, and ambient light around the sitting area that makes evenings genuinely pleasant. All planned with the electrical points in the ground before the landscape is built.
Hardscape — Paths, Edges, and Surfaces
The paved areas, stepping stone paths, boundary planters, raised beds, and edging between lawn and planted areas — this is what gives a landscape its structure and keeps it looking maintained even when the plants are in between seasons. We design hardscape that is practical to walk on, easy to clean, and ages well in outdoor conditions.
Drainage and Slope Planning
Lucknow gets heavy rainfall and the ground stays saturated for weeks during monsoon. A landscape without a drainage plan becomes a waterlogged mess every year — muddy paths, dying plant roots, and water entering the boundary wall. We design the ground levels and drainage channels so water moves away from the house and doesn’t pool anywhere it shouldn’t.
Boundary Treatment and Screening
The inside of a boundary wall is one of the most neglected surfaces in most homes. A well-designed boundary treatment — a row of screening plants, a planted bed along the wall, or a trellis with climbers — turns a bare compound wall into part of the landscape. It adds privacy, reduces heat reflection from the wall, and makes the whole space feel more complete.
April — June
Designing for the heat first
The landscape has to survive Lucknow summers with minimal intervention. That means deep-rooted trees that don’t need daily watering, hardscape that doesn’t retain heat into the evening, and no plants that require humidity they won’t get. We design for survival in summer so the garden looks good when the weather turns.
July — September
Built for monsoon drainage
Three months of heavy rain means every low point in the landscape will collect water unless it has been graded properly. We plan where the water goes before the landscape is planted — outflow points, gentle slopes, and drainage channels that work without looking like an engineering site. The garden should drain quietly and completely within hours of rain stopping.
October — February
This is when you’ll actually use it
Five months of comfortable weather is when the outdoor space earns its place. Morning light in the sitting area, seasonal flowering plants at their best, evenings cool enough to sit outside until late. We design specifically for this season — the one where a well-designed garden pays back every rupee spent on it, and a poorly designed one just gets in the way.

A complete outdoor plan your contractor can execute without guessing

Landscape work goes wrong most often when there are no proper drawings — the contractor plants things where there’s space, levels are done by eye, and the lighting is added as an afterthought. We give you a complete set of drawings so every decision is made before a single plant goes in the ground.

One Honest Thing to Know

A landscape takes time to look the way it was designed to look. On day one, newly planted trees are small, the lawn has bare patches, and the climbing plants have not yet reached the trellis. This is normal. What you are seeing is the starting point, not the finished result. Most landscapes reach their intended look in two to three growing seasons — which in Lucknow means two or three full years.

What we design for is year three, not day one. If you want something that looks impressive immediately, that requires more mature plants at higher cost, and we can plan for that too — but we will always be upfront about what you are actually buying and whether it is worth the additional spend for your specific situation.
